These are the original bronzes as seen on the TV series
Battlestar Galactica
Sklaneitis bronzes are produced by traditional methods, using a compacted sand mould produced from a master sculpture. Each statue is then hand finished and an artificial ‘antique’ patina is then applied. The manufacturing process is highly repeatable so that overall details and dimensions remain consistent. The applied patina naturally varies from piece to piece.

While the production methods may be traditional, the styling of the figures is most definitely not tradtitional. With details drawn from classical sculptures, the statues utilise many modern features, and owe much to the sinuous forms found in Art Deco designs, an era when bronze was also a popular medium.

The combinations of historical connotations combined with the modern forms makes the Sklavenitis bronzes equally at home in traditional or ultra modern surroundings.

The horse represents Pride and Power, however there is also a connection with our other figures, as Poseidon is also named as the God of Horses. One of Poseidon’s notorious love affairs was actually with his sister Demeter, who to escape his attentions turned herself in to a mare, not to be outdone
Poseidon turned himself in to a stallion, the end result being the birth of a horse, Arion!

The very stylish horses to the left are one of our favourites and Sklavenitis has managed to endow these beasts with a true sense of speed and motion.

Athena supposedly invented the chariot and the bridle in her spare time. A chariot driven by Apollo was also said to be how the Sun travelled through the sky. A peaceful purpose for a war machine

Ancient Greeks, living in rather violent times, needed something on their heads. These helmets with or without plumes, recall also the headgear worn in the English Civil War, so you can choose your ancient Greek as a ‘roundhead’ or ‘cavalier’
