Authentic Greek sculpture, ceramics, glass, gifts, souvenirs, and jewellery, from Crete and Greece
Carving stone has long been an occupation carried out by the goat herders who spend the summer months high on the mountains tending their flocks. As they have time to spare they would often carve everyday objects such as spoons and other hand tools from the limestone rocks found in abundance.
Sometimes they would turn their hand to decorative objects and the Kri Kri, or wild goat indigenous to Crete, and the bull, shown on this page are obvious examples. These are made in Heraklion, the capital of Crete.
The Kri ~Kri are finely detailed and stand proudly on a rock surveying their domain, while the bull stands ready to charge. These sculptures vary depending on the stone that is used but the overall style remains the same.
